About the Author
Jean M. Williams is a professor emeritus at the University of Arizona where she served in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science and the Department of Psychology. She taught courses in stress and coping and psychology of excellence and consulted with intercollegiate athletes and coaches and with top amateur and professional athletes as well as supervised consulting. Dr. Williams has published nine books (seven edited) and more than 100 research articles and book chapters. Her research focused on psychology of injury, psychology of excellence, group dynamics and productivity, and exercise and mental health. She is a past president, fellow, and certified consultant in the Association of Applied Sport Psychology and a fellow in the National Academy of Kinesiology.

Vikki Krane is a professor with the School of Human Movement, Sport, and Leisure Studies at Bowling Green State University. Her research focuses on gender and sexuality issues in sport psychology. Dr. Krane is a former editor of The Sport Psychologist and the Women in Sport and Physical Activity Journal and has been an editorial board member for the Psychology of Sport and Exercise, The Sport Psychologist, Journal of Applied Sport Psychology, and Qualitative Research in Sport & Exercise. She is a fellow of AASP and the National Academy of Kinesiology. As a certified consultant, AASP, Krane has consulted with a variety of athletes, including high school, rising elite adolescents, and college athletes.

A wonderful collection

This is the first volume in a two-volume set (Great Political Theories V.2: A Comprehensive Selection of the Crucial Ideas in Political Philosophy from the French Revolution to Modern Times) that includes excerpts from the most important political thinkers in world history. Each important thinker such as Plato or Machiavelli is included and each is adorned with a short biography and a piece of their most important contribution. This volume begins in the 5th century B.C or thereabouts and comes up to the mid 18th century. A very good selection of thinkers, all the most important ones are here. This is a great introduction to the history of Political theory and political philosophy, a great achievement and also a wonderful place for anyone interested in the history of philosophy or western thought to begin.

Highlights from Some of History's Most Important Thinkers

For as long as there has been recorded history, philosophers have attempted to discern how societies are governed best. This volume is an anthology of classic writings in political theory covering the time from the ancient Greeks to the eighteenth century and includes essays by Plato, Aristotle, Cicero, Augustine, Aquinas, Locke, and many other of the most eminent thinkers in world history.

The book contains an introduction that describes some of the issues that political philosophy sets out to address and looks at how it does so. There are chapters in the book on Greece, Rome, Christianity, the Renaissance, the Reformation, constitutionalism, and many more, and each chapter also has an introduction that precedes the writings.

Oligarchy, monarchy, democracy, and constitutionalism have been advocated by different philosophers down through the ages, and essays here attempt to assert the merits of each. Among the other topics examined are Epicureanism and Stoicism, divine right, the role of religion and how changes in religion effect change in politics, power and its limits (and the related issue of obedience and the right of resistance), and the separation of powers in a governmental system.

Many thoughts expressed here are timeless while others have been eclipsed. There are also numerous incisive observations about life and the human condition. "The Great Political Theories" is a superb collection of essays, and I look forward to reading the second volume of this two-part series.

About the Author
Syed Ali Ashter is a Development Engineer at EMD Millipore Corporation, developing medical devices from concept to commercialization, and in process development. He performed post-doctoral research on next generation formable films for the automotive industry at McMaster University, and received his Ph.D. in 2008 in Plastics Engineering from University of Massachusetts Lowell. He has been on the Board of Directors of the Medical Plastics division of the Society of Plastics Engineers since 2012. My Favorite Book In The "Daring Adventures" Series

This is a great children's book. It's an "Indiana Jones" type adventure story that is wholesome, fun, and filled with action, risk, dauntless courage, exploration, and bravery . Perfect for children (it was written for ages 9+), it makes a fun family read aloud to youngsters.

I first read it well over 10 years ago in manuscript form, and just recently picked it up to loan to a child, only to to read it again myself, all in one afternoon, enjoying it every bit as much as I did years ago. :)

Mr. Doyle knows how to weave a fun story and this book (#12 in the Daring Adventures series) has always been a favorite of mine. The three main characters; Mark, Penny, and David take a friend along to explore an untouched and hidden temple in the African jungle. There is a poem at the front of this book which only gives me more reason to pick this book out of the rest of the series as my favorite. Sure to stir the imagination of any adventure loving reader and inspire them to greater deeds of heroism!

Exciting conclusion, even after a decade-long hiatus

I've been a Daring Adventure fan for years and years, ever since Peter Reese Doyle released the first six novels with Focus on the Family years and years ago. I was surprised when I found Flight from the Temple had been a thing at all, and had to finish out my series.

Yes, the book itself is a bit pricey, since it's now out of print, and as an adult who, as a child, read books 1-11 at least ten times through, the style of writing seems fairly predictable in comparison with all the other books. Still, I found the storyline compelling and exciting!

Slight spoiler: I was especially happy that he finally wrapped up the series, especially since he ended all eleven of the previous books with something to the effect of "and they wondered what adventures awaited them there!" It was nice to finally stop wondering what was to come, and breathe a sigh of relief and think, "Finally, it's finished!"

If you use Excel, then you need this book.

This book is an excelent introduction. It covers all of the basics, even basic programming for those who don't know much about Visual Basic. I am an investor who uses Excel to track my holdings and to create complex charts and graphs. After reading this book I was able to create macros and applets that have saved my countless hours of work. Not only that, but I am now tracking my investments in ways that I had never imagined before. This book is a great introduction, not only to Excel programming, but also to automation in general. The author explains to the reader how to extract elements and/or information from Excel and paste them into Word documents. He presents the information in such a way that I have been able to extend his automation examples to PowerPoint and Front Page as well, which the book doesn't even cover. In all, I would have to give this title five stars. If you use Excel at all, then you should save yourself some time and buy this book.

Learned it Fast.

I found this book very helpful. I was taking a class on Visual Basic and my teacher recommended this book as additional learning to help learn VBA and I am glad he did. It's an older book now but still works with the new versions of Excel. If you want a cheap book that can walk you through Visual Basic for Excel this is the book to get. It is broken down into one hour segments so that you can just do one hour or you can do 4 hours. The time is fairly accurate too, it just depends on how fast you read and how much you want to go over the content again.

I would highly recommend this book if you want to learn the basics of VBA Programming.

Fast, cheap, and adequate

This is the book you get when you are moving from user to power user. I bought this book when I was temping and learned vba fast and well enough to get my next assignment. It lead me to more in depth books but this one guided me enough to give me a taste. Within in a couple of chapters your got some cool stuff running. It even shows you how you can make Excel talk to Word. These "in 24 Hour" books serve to get you there fast and not to be an in depth book for the subject so it served its purpose. It could use more screen shots for the absolute beginner.
