In almost every instance family lines are brought down to the present day from the earliest settler in America, the lines convincingly developed after careful consideration of court records, histories, family bibles, and miscellaneous family documents. The Colonial, Revolutionary, War of 1812, and Civil War record of each family is set forth succinctly. Although the primary aim of the work is to show the Colonial or Revolutionary settler and his posterity, treatment is given, in some cases, to the progenitors of the original settler. Each genealogy is meticulously developed, giving all names in both collateral and direct lines of descent, dates and places of birth, marriage and death, places of residence, and all other particulars of genealogical significance.

In the preparation of this work Miss Armstrong drew on the services of a large group of specialists, in some instances publishing their findings in their entirety and in the case of Volume V actually collaborating with Janie Preston Collup French (who incidentally contributed the entire contents of Volume VI). The net result is a product of enduring reference value, a work boasting so many families and names that it is, in effect, the spine of Southern genealogy.

This volume includes genealogies of the families of Armstrong ("Trooper"), Cockrill, Duke, Elston, Lea, Park, Parkes, and Tunnell.

Did Not Digitize Well

Several problems make this not a good buy. There are multiple volumes of Notable Southern Families. This kindle version only has volume 2 in it.

The digital process was unkind to this book. For genealogy purposes, any glitches that affect the names, places, dates can be crucial. Here's an example of the text: "Captain Joseph, boni^ 1730, died 1814, served in Revolutioimry war, uiarrii^d Patience Godwin, had a son, James, who married .\ima Gray (iodwin. Joseph Holliday served as Liemfenant in f^ptain N«ithnniel Fox's f^iOmpany, 6th Virginia Regiment, born in Nausemowd County."

You can guess at some of the words to sort of read the book: uiarrii^d = married, Revolutioimry = Revolutionary, f^ptain = Captain, but when it comes to the names, you don't want to guess. Getting a name right is vital. The book is riddled with these errors.

About the Author

Mark Cousins works as a composer and sound engineer (www.cousins-saunders.co.uk), as well as being a long-serving contributor to MusicTech magazine, where he writes the regular Logic Pro X column. His music is used worldwide on television, radio and film, and has been featured on hit shows like The Apprentice, Top Gear and CSI:NY. As well as having works performed and recorded by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bulgarian Film Orchestra and Choir, Mark has also had his music used in commercials for McDonald’s, Diet Coke, Stella Artois, Liptons, Strongbow and BT.

 

Russ Hepworth-Sawyer is a sound engineer and producer with two decades’ experience of all things audio and is a member of the Association of Professional Recording Services, a Fellow of the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce), and a board member of the Music Producer’s Guild where he helped form their Mastering Group. Essential to Fully Understand What You Can Do With Logic Pro X

Mark Cousins, along with Russ Hepworth-Sawyer, bowled me over with Logic Pro 9. It was excellent, so I picked up Logic Pro X as soon as I became aware it was available. I was not disappointed. Logic Pro X is very well done, but don't expect simple explanations. The writing is clear and concise, and only for the serious, not those wanting to throw some beats at the wall while hoping they stick. Logic Pro is a comprehensive DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) that requires comprehensive explanations. Though Logic Pro 9 contained more than a few editorial errors, I've yet to find a mistake in Logic Pro X. Messrs. Cousins and Hepworth-Sawyer--each thoroughly ensconced in the British music industry as composer (Cousins), sound engineers, and producer (Hepworth-Sawyer)--deliver, in language that sparkles with precision, passion, and aha-I've-got-it-now clarity.

I simply love it! I've already gotten my money's worth in about two months since I use it almost every day. It's very easy to use once you learn how. Many things are self explanatory but I did get a book and video to help me with the more complicated stuff.

A través de una excelente traducción en español y una entretenida y aleccionadora enseñanza, Robert nos educa y prepara para un futuro diferente si nos atrevemos a salir del confort, cambiar nuestros paradigmas sobre finanzas y nos adentramos en nuevos terrenos con la seguridad de aprender y crecer en términos de finanzas y de libertad de tiempo y dinero.
Para mí fue un verdadero shock aprender que el ahorro y vivir por debajo de mis medios NO son la solución a mi futuro financiero. Todavía me da miedo la deuda pero este libro me ha enseñado a explorar y aplicar el concepto de deuda mala y deuda buena, de manera tal que he empezado a construir mi riqueza a partir de desarrollar activos apalancados en la deuda y el escrutinio para aplicarla en las oportunidades. Sé que aprenderé cometiendo errores pero las enseñanzas de Robert serán invaluables para salir adelante.

About the Author
Andrew Read (PhD, FRCPath, FMedSci) is Professor of Human Genetics at the University of Manchester. He is co-author of Strachan and Read's Human Molecular Genetics the leading advanced textbook on the subject. He established one of the first molecular genetic diagnostic services in the UK and has a long-standing interest in what genetic testing can and should, achieve. Dian Donnai (FRCP, FRCPCH, FMedSci) is Professor of Medical Genetics at the University of Manchester and Consultant Clinical Geneticist in the NW Regional Genetics Service. She is one of the world's leading authorities on clinical genetics, especially the study of dysmorphic syndromes, and is an advisor to many national and international bodies on the clinical application of genetics.

This book has a different approach then most genetics books out there. I really feel it helps medical students understand basic principles of genetics as it integrates them with cases, making genetics relevant for clinical practice for all specialties!

Not needed for a first or second year medical student

If you are in your first two years of medical school and this listed as required reading then this review applies to you. This book is a bit out of scope for medical students. As an alternative, you should buy Robbins and Cotran "Pathologic Basis of Disease" - there is a great genetics chapter in it, and it covers the basics of genetics as well as the key diseases you need to understand for medical school and USMLE Step 1. It additionally has a section on diagnostics and it is all explained in the classic Robbins ease of clarity. Furthermore, every single organ system is brilliantly covered in the other chapters of the textbook, which makes the "Pathologic Basis of Disease" a one-stop shop for all of your needs, including genetics.
