Stoic tragedies!

I had to read this book for my class which focuses on literature for Augustus to Nero.
I have the kindle version. The starring in the e-book is really nice in elaborating on references which mention gods, events, et cetera that as an average contemporary reader we don't know about, but any Roman citizen reading this would have known. Yet I still think there were a lot more points that the book could have pointed out because really unless you have a very extensive knowledge of both Greek and Roman mythology it's easy to miss many enriching references in the tragedies. That is my main scruple with the book. As someone who does know Latin, for the syntax, I think it followed really well what you would expect from reading this in the original language which I really enjoyed. Latin prides itself on this paradoxical and ambiguous syntax that this translation did well capturing.

Now for the actual content of the book:
I love Seneca, most of the time. The plays Medea, Phaedra, Oedipus, and Thyestes do not disappoint. They are scattered with those stoic principles Seneca is so famous for. They have the fast pasted, passionate plots that you want in a tragedy. That being said Hercules Furens and Trojan Women, not so much. Both of these lack that spark of passion which makes all these other plays so interesting. They also seem to really not be focused on actual action but just retelling of former events.
BE WARNED: These plays contain very graphic and violent depictions of murders of children, incest, and so forth just so you know. It is speculated that Seneca wrote these during the Neronian period so this graphic violence is directly correlated to a pessimism he suffered from living in such a period working under an emperor like Nero, but who knows

Ms Wilson gives valuable information on Seneca's life and times, which helps explain the content and tone of the tragedies. She also tracks how he influenced Elizabethan drama, from Kyd to Webster.

Since the Bender Gestalt Test could be administered to large groups of soldiers in five to ten minutes, it became one of the most popular tests of that era, and it has remained one of the five most popular and frequently used tests for the assessment of personality and neurologic abnormalities.

American academicians, researchers, and clinicians affected by the surge in cost containment measures of managed health care and the sharply reduced funding in outpatient and inpatient mental health services are seeking expeditious, inexpensive solutions for complex, often chronic problems. Superlative Engineered Aircraft!

The B787 is a superlative example of current aircraft engineering. It can climb to top of cruise from takeoff with out allowing for the fuel burn step climb required by virtually all previous jet liners. And at the top of descent special methods are required to slow it down as it is such a "slick" air frame. This book, written from the pilot's perspective, helps further understand and appreciate the many special qualities and advancements found in this newest aircraft.

Great book. As a pilot with a commercial license (that I used for personal use only), I always love reading about new aircraft, new toys, new places. This book was very informative and revealing to me. A quick read, if you like airplanes you'll enjoy this short book.

Informative Insight into a Trans Pacific Flight

This is the second of Gib Vogel's books on modern civil aviation operations. The first book about the A380 was excellent but I felt this book lacked something. The clue is in the introduction where the author tells us he is rated to fly the A380 but not the 787. He therefore had to research his subject with the help of pilot friends who are rated on the type and oth aviation resources. The author was clearly at home writing about the A380, less so I felt on the 787.

That aside, this book gives a great insight into the design, concept and construction of the B787 and how it is operated. Living as I do in New Zealand, I have made a number of trips to LAX and often wondered about how trans Pacific operations are carried out and arrival procedures in Los Angeles. This book gave me the answers.

You will enjoy this book more if you already have some basic knowledge of civil aviation operations.

A drum education classic!

The practice systems in this book will without question expand your abilities on the drums, making you a better improviser, improving your coordination, and giving you a greater command of displacement and the ability to move ideas around in your phrasing (including over the bar phrases and polyrhythmic-sounding ideas). Mark presents a detailed system to improve your playing in various areas (dynamics, rate, orchestration, phrasing), and along the way you'll be asked to develop your own ideas using his template. It's one of the few drum books I've seen that gives you a process for learning drums that results in you creating your own ideas, not just copying what's in the book.

Get into the mind of Mark Guiliana. "There are no short cuts"

Mark Guiliana reveals his methods for developing creativity. You begin to understand how Mark became such a monster musician; practice, practice, practice. Smart practice. In this book he's not showing you how to play like him, but how to develop your own creativity through the systems he has used to develop. This is a study in how to practice and get the most out what you can do, rather than a method book full of licks, grooves and fills. Mark encourages taking these concepts and making them your own. In fact, he sounds genuinely excited to know he is lighting the creative spark in others. This text is likely to become a classic for those drummers looking to find their unique voice and develop their command of the instrument. I look forward to bringing Mark's concepts into my own playing.

The video content, including examples, open solos and band performances are perfect to further illustrate the book's concepts.
